Adrian Boynton

Musical Director: Christ the Cornerstone Ecumenical Church, Milton Keynes

A relatively brief span of history - 250 years - has seen the rise of the symphony orchestra and its associated great composers, from Bach to Britten. In recent times the constant demotion of great music to background stimulation and the infinite repeatability of recordings have weakened our powers of concentration as listeners. Can these be restored? What relevance does the music of the past have in an increasingly digital and technological age? The current cacophony of modernism might suggest that the golden era of great music is at an end. Where are the Bachs and Mozarts of today? Is there a future in the the next 250 years? Should we care?

Adrian Boynton is a conductor, pianist, organist, music educator and composer. He was music director in several schools (including Roedean and Stoneygate) before becoming director of music at the new Ecumenical City Church in Milton Keynes, where he has developed an outstanding musical tradition. He conducts the Cornerstone Chamber Choir and Orchestra, organises an extensive international concert programme and is well known for his long-running series of illustrated talks ‘Exploring Music’ and ‘Musical Milestones’.
