Michael-Nazir Ali, Bishop of Rochester.

The bishop will consider the nature of the spiritual in its personal and social dimensions, the accountability at the bar of world opinion of the dialogue between Christianity and Islam, and the Christian faith in its multi cultural contexts.

The Right Reverend Dr Michael Nazir-Ali is particularly well placed to address these issues coming as he does from both a Christian and Muslim family background in Pakistan. His special insights have served him well in the House of Lords, as well as in his contributions to national radio and television. Before being appointed the first non-white bishop in the Church ofEngland in 1994, he was General Secretary of the Church Missionary Society for five years. He will be stepping down from his current post this autumn to work with persecuted churches.
