‘Big things grow from small beginnings’.
This the time of year when red and purple berries are thick in the hedges, leaves are starting to change colour, the air has a ‘nip’ and farmers are bringing in their crops. It’s Harvest time! But alongside Harvest, it is also a time when we gather and sow seeds for the next crop.
Jesus had lots of stories to tell about farming, as many of the people who came to listen would have been farmers. One of his stories was about sowing a very small seed which grew and grew until it was a big tree, big enough for birds to nest in it.
It is good to think of this story if we sometimes feel we are too small to make a difference, or the thing we are trying to do seems too difficult.
